Riding again!

July 16, 2013
The weather looks good so I headed for the hills. I'm going to work my way down to the Osa Peninsula.

All along the coast south of the Nicoya peninsula there are a lot of palm groves. I stopped and visited with this guy and get some information. The groves are Palm oil tress and the fruit is processed here in CR and then most if not all of the refined oil is exported to the USA. Some of the date clusters weigh more that 20 kilo. He told me a good cluster will weigh more than 25 kilo. He hand loads them onto his truck with an iron pick.

Departed Nicoya with plans to have lunch in Jaco. The coast road is nice and I don't feel like going back through San Jose. I had planned on going to the east coast however it's raining a lot and there has been some flooding there.

Crossed a bridge north of Jaco and was told there were some crocodiles on the bank. The one in the middle is more than 5 meters long. BIG

Stopped in the village of Dominical for the night. Small surfing village with not much going on during the low season.

Went back into the center of town, 2 minute walk, and practiced some spanish with this guy. I had all kinds of different fruits I'd never seen.
