Uganda - Jan 17-21, 2016

January 13-20, 2016:
Waiting on the weather took a bit longer than I had hoped. One storm that came through brought large hail and gale force winds, four people were supposedly struck by lightning, two were killed. Electricity was out for two days. There was also word going around the village that someone had been killed in a landslide. Crazy.
Not much to do, read a couple books and when there was a break I'd do short walks around the village.

A group of pygmies stopped by and provided some entertainment. They use to live in the surrounding mountains however with the expansion of the NP's and the gorilla habitat the government moved them into the villages. They do what they can to get by.

January 21, 2016:
Finally, I got a break in the weather and got back on the trail. The rain had let up however it was still very overcast, there's lots of mountains and agriculture in this area and I was really hoping to get some views. Didn't happen. The overcast is creating a strange light, very difficult to get good photos.

There's a dirt road that runs along the east side of the lake that's a very nice ride. Fairly smooth however there's a few challenging and steep areas to make it fun!

One area of the lake has a few tourist resorts and while riding past one of the lodges a guy flagged me down so I stopped for a visit. He, Chris, is a South African who's riding a GS north to Switzerland with plans on being there in March. Yup, March! I wish you a safe journey Chris.

The weather was holding so I set my sights on reaching a village close to Queen Elizabeth NP and spend the night. I stopped for a late lunch and was joined by a couple bicyclists, Zelda & Sam, heading in the opposite direction. Zelda's from Sweden and started her journey solo, heading for Cape Town, South Africa. Sam's a Uk-Aussie that's been riding for quite some time, the two met in Cairo and joined forces. Got to love a good sense of adventure!
I wish you a safe journey my friends.

Reached the village of Kihihi and decided that was enough for one day. It's a small place located five miles from the QENP, perfect! There was a some children watching me from across the road, very curious but a bit shy. Finally one of the boys slowly made his way over and shook my hand. He was shy about asking however I could tell he really wanted to sit on the moto. I asked if he would sit on the moto so I could take a photo and the smile came!

It wasn't long before the other children came over and were crawling all over it.
