Bridges seem to be the local cow hang out. I saw more cows along the roads than in the fields and for some reason they enjoy being on bridges.

A rain squall was coming my way and just by chance I arrived at a small Mom & Pop restaurant just before it hit me. I just sat down, made motions as to being hungry and I was soon eating a salad and then some kabobs. Very nice couple, and even though I didn't understand a word they said, they talked anyway.

Russia bound via the Old Military Highway!
Stopped at a small petrol station for some coffee and noticed some nice calendar pages in the garage!

Along the route theres a crumbling structure that was built as some sort of, Friends of Communism. Not really sure what it was used for, I asked however no one spoke English.

No sure what this was about, looked like some sort of traditional get together or reenactment:

Stopped for lunch just south of the Russian border and a guy met up with a guy, Vernon from the UK, who I had met at Moto Camp in Bulgaria. I really didn't have a ride plan once I got into Russia so I decided to follow along with him. He was headed for Kasakhstan and then returning to the UK.

Cleared out of Georgia, I didn't take any photos of the Russian border crossing.

I wasn't sure of which route Vernon was taking, I just followed along and sure enough we ended up right in the heart of Chechnya. I was going to avoid the area but oh well. The people were good however there wasn't much to see, flat and barren and basic. We decide to get out of there and then ended up in the Republic of Daguestan, I'd never heard of it. No place to stay and no beer, very sparse. We finally ended up in the village of Komsomolsky around 11 pm and found a place to stay. Basic room with an outhouse, however it had ac. It was miserable hot.

Got on the trail early with intentions of crossing into Kazakhstan. Things didn't work out that way, took a bit longer than expected due to road conditions, and it was hot.
Departing Komsomolsky:

Did about 40 miles on this stuff, and it was hot. Most of it was ok however, where there's sand, it gets deep.

I had taken the lead and at one point lost sight of Vernon for quite some time. I turned around and met a military convoy. One of the guys in the lead vehicle made a motion like he was riding a moto then pointed back in the direction he came from while giving me the, ok sign. Sure enough after the last military vehicle there's Vernon. He'd flopped it and the military guys had helped him get the moto back on it's feet. A couple bends and dents but all was good.

Water stop before crossing a floating bridge to the town of Kransy Yar.

Looks easy and smooth, wrong. It was like trying to ride a motorcycle on a moving roller coaster. Waves had splashed over some of the middle sections and that was like riding on heaving ice. Both of us almost flopped it.

It was bit late in the day, and it was hot. Decided to stay the night in Kransy Yar and cross into Kazakhstan early morning, cooler.
