Next stop, Kourou. Just off the coast are the "Iles de Salute" or Islands of Salvation. Three islands which were part of the prison system one of which was called "Devils Island".
When I took the tour of the prison the guide spoke French only, fortunately there was a Belgium couple in the group and the husband translated for me. When the tour was finished we visited for awhile and they suggested I visit a church in the town of Iracoubo along the way to Kourou and view the art work. An escaped convict fled there, befriended the priest and helped out around the church. The priest didn't know he was an escaped convict. Once settled he began painting the inside of the church. It's really quite amazing.

Arrived in Kourou, my first view of the islands. Found a great place to stay and the owner arranged a boat trip out to the islands for me tomorrow! Her father is a dual sport rider, rides a TransAlp, ten years my elder.
