Ecuador 27 Jan 14
Got the moto into Ruta 40, BMW dealer, late Wednesday afternoon and got it back on Friday afternoon, all fixed ready to ride! Thanks Ruta 40, I appreciate you taking care of Jenny. Rode to Popayan on Saturday and then onto Ipiales Sunday. I had lots of time so I rode slow and just enjoyed the scenery and stopped often for drinks and snacks. Between Popayan and Ipiales I passed a guy on a HD with Florida tags, he didn't seem to interested in acknowledging me, I passed him twice and he never looked or waved.
The crossing into Ecuador was easy and painless. Got the passport stamped within 10 minutes and the moto documents took about 30 minutes. No one asked for it and I'm not sure if it's required, however I purchased a months worth of insurance, $5.

There is a cave near this village, I didn't go, but I found this interesting. The arch in the foreground was a bit strange however the thing being built behind it was odd. Sort of a sea shell, whale combination thing.

Met this guy at a construction stop. A retried French Policeman living in Cali, Colombia. He was on his way to Quito to visit a friend that was flying in. I road with him for about an hour and while at stop lights he would pass along information. He'd been all over SA, his moto had over 220,000 kilometer on it. He would smoke cigerettes while winding through traffic. I rode with him to Lake San Pablo, just south of Otavalo where I stopped at a restaurant that he suggested and he kept on his way to Quito.

View of Imbaburu Volcano from the restaurant. The water was full of green algae.

He suggested I ride out to the village of Cotacachi and visit, Laguna de Cuicocha. It's a lake near the Cotacachi Volacano. Two islands in the middle of the lake:

Cotacachi Volcan in the background, it didn't want to show itself. It's the rainy season here so it might take time to get views of the Valcano's:
