Carretera Austral, Ruta 7
Country
November 15, 2017:
Crossed over into Chile, very cold with light rain. Went into Osorno for a new front tire and then south to Ensenada. It was quite cool with cloudy skies however it was a very nice ride. Got settled in with the plan of getting an early start in the morning.
November 16, 2017:
The early start didn’t happen, heavy rain and strong winds put everything on hold.
November 17, 2017:
Weather was much better and I was on my way to Hormopiren to catch the ferries to Chaiten:
The previous days rain had melted some ice in the mountains and taken out the bridge support.
Arriving Hornopiren:
The the ferry wasn't departing until 10:00 on the 18th, so I settled in a for the night.
Departing Hornopiren:
It's a three hour ferry transite to Letepu and then a seven mile ride to the next ferry (:45) that goes to Caleta Gonzalo
The weather took a turn for the worst, a steady rain:
After a 35 mile, very wet ride from Caleta Gonzalo to Chaiten, I was ready for a hot shower, warm meal and a cold beer!
Visibility wasn't good for most of the ride but it was a great ride day!
