Lake Quilotoa to Banos

Febuary 06, 2014
Woke up on the 6th to a beautiful clear day! The Quilotoa region is known as the heartland of Ecuador and I was excited to ride some of the area along the, Quilotoa Loop. The weather changes quick here so I didn't delay in starting the days ride.

When I was in Puerto Lopez I was told that Volcano Tungurahua, near the village of Banos, had erupted so I decided to work my way there and maybe see it coughing. The route would also take me within good viewing distance of the Cotopaxi Volcano, weather permitting, it wasn't. Soon after descending out of the mountains the clouds gathered.
When I got within ten miles of Banos it was cloudy and the wind was blowing like crazy. In certain section I was getting sand blasted from ash coming from Tungurahua. To cloudy to see her though.
